Healthcare and security of a student in Ireland

Moving to another country can have adjustments, and in order to make sure everything goes off smoothly, it is important to have access to medical care and emergency services at all times.

On campus there are several associations that look out for student rights, especially with regards to international students. We strongly recommend registering with a local practitioner on campus at the earliest.

In Ireland, most educational institutions also provide student with health insurance.

The country does not have a local police force. There is a nationwide force present known as the The Guardians of the Peace (A Garda Síochána), which was set up in 1922.

In case of any emergency, you will have to call the “blue light” services – Garda Síochána, ambulance, fire and Irish Coast Guard on the toll free numbers – 999 or 112.
